“The Vanishing Hemlock” – a new documentary about the HWA crisis

In an effort to raise awareness about the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid situation in the southern Appalachian Mountains, Will Blozan, owner of Appalachian Arborists, Inc., teamed up with North Carolina-based Back 40 Films and filmmaker David Huff to develop the documentary “The Vanishing Hemlock: A Race Against Time.” The movie follows Blozan as he fights HWA and explores the devastation the pest is causing in his region.

“I truly believe ignorance is the leading cause of death for hemlock trees right now — people who either turn a blind eye to the situation or those who think that nothing can be done to save these trees,” Blozan said.  “That’s why we’re working on this documentary — to help bring the story of the hemlock to a larger scale. To get people to realize the dire situation. Frankly, I have no sympathy for apathy where these majestic trees are concerned. The death of the hemlock affects us all.”

The film is scheduled for release in 2009. For more about the documentary, visit www.thevanishinghemlock.com
