Vermeer Corporation has introduced two engine options to the BC1000XL brush chipper that offer fuel-efficient diesel engine technology and produce significantly less emissions.
The BC1000XL can be equipped with either a clean-burning 49-hp (36.5 kW) Cat C2.2L Tier 4a or 85 hp (63.4 kW) Cummins B3.3 Tier 3 turbo diesel engine. Both engine options offer the power needed to efficiently process material up to 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, while the 25-gal (94.6 L) fuel tank cuts the time spent refueling and increases time spent on the jobsite.
By offering two engine options, customers have the ability to customize the BC1000XL to fit their needs,” says Todd Roorda, an environmental solutions specialist with Vermeer Corporation. “By adding the CAT Tier 4a engine option, we’ve selected a lower horsepower engine that is significantly more fuel-efficient, but produces the power demanded by customers.”
The BC1000XL also features the Vermeer patented SmartFeed system, which monitors engine rpm and automatically stops or reverses the rollers when feeding larger hardwood material reducing the need to manually manipulate the control bar.
A clutchless PTO system allows the cutter to be engaged without using a traditional slip clutch or idler pulley and without sliding the engine. The system is simple to maintain — once under the shield, belt changes are easily accomplished without the use of tools.
The Bottom Feed Stop Bar is strategically located to make it possible for the operator to strike the bar and shut off the feed either intentionally or automatically in an emergency situation. A reset button on each side of the infeed housing allows for easy system reset if the bar is tripped.
A standard rubber torsional axle provides smooth towing, especially with smaller vehicles. The control panel has been relocated to the rear of the unit, allowing easier operator access to necessary control functions and gauges when the unit is in operation.
The large 12- by 17-inch (30.5 by 43.2 cm) infeed opening helps boost productivity by decreasing the amount of trim cuts needed prior to processing. Other enhancements include a durable all steel hood, designed to hold up to daily wear and tear.
