Stihl representative appointed to the Manufacturing Development Commission of Virginia

Scott Tilley, general counsel and member of the executive council of Virginia Beach, Va.-based Stihl Inc., was recently appointed to Virginia’s Manufacturing Development Commission by Governor Bob McDonnell. In his role at Stihl Inc., which is the headquarters for U.S. manufacturing, marketing and distribution, Tilley manages the product information department, which includes legal, product compliance and safety/environmental functions. Tilley is also currently a board member of the Virginia Manufacturers Association (VMA).

“The Virginia Manufacturers Association developed the legislature’s Manufacturing Development Commission to assess manufacturing needs and formulate legislative and regulatory remedies to ensure the future of the manufacturing sector in Virginia,” said Brett A. Vassey, president and CEO of the VMA. “It is an honor to be appointed to this prestigious Commission by Governor McDonnell. Scott Tilley’s appointment to the Commission illustrates the respect that he has in Richmond and the value of Stihl’s world-class reputation.”

Tilley has worked at Stihl Inc. for 12 years. Prior to Stihl, he worked for the McGuire Woods LLP law firm in Richmond, Va.

“The mission of the Manufacturing Development Commission is to evaluate what is needed to grow manufacturing, technology and jobs in Virginia, and to formulate and support legislative and regulatory policy to advance those goals,” said Tilley. “I believe this appointment reflects the Governor’s recognition of Stihl’s growth and leadership in the manufacturing sector, and it is an honor to represent Stihl and manufacturing on this Commission.”

In addition to his responsibilities at Stihl and the VMA, Tilley currently serves on the Norfolk Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) board of directors, as well as the executive board of the Virginia Beach Division of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce. He is also a past chair of the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI) leaf blower task force, which created a variety of helpful resources to assist landscapers on the proper use of leaf blowers in light of current regulations and ordinances.
