Nominations being accepted for ISA board of directors positions

The International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) is seeking nominations for positions on the ISA board of directors. The deadline to submit nominations is January 15, 2012.

The ISA board of directors is made up of a president, president-elect, and 13 directors. Of these 13 people, five are to be nominated and voted upon by the Council of Representatives and eight from the membership-at-large.

For the upcoming term, the Nominations and Elections Committee is seeking to fill four (4) positions on the current board. Three (3) of these positions will be filled by individuals nominated and elected by the ISA membership. The final position is to be filled by nominations and election from the Council of Representatives of ISA.

This announcement is to solicit nominees for the 3 Board positions from the general membership. If you would like to nominate yourself or someone else as a candidate for the ISA board of directors, e-mail the name to Jerri Moorman at ISA (jmoorman@isa-arbor.com). The person you nominate must be a current member of ISA.

Once nominated, the nominee will be asked if they accept or decline the nomination.  If they accept, they will be sent documentation related to the position as well as asked to submit a biography/resume and respond to a few questions concerning their interest in the position.

Current Board members Bill Fountain, Melinda Myers, and Brian Phelan will automatically be nominated for the upcoming election because they are all eligible to serve a second term if they are re-elected by the membership.  Even though they are automatically nominated, they will still need to be vetted by the Nominations and Elections Committee.

Criteria for nominees to be considered are:

1. Demonstrated positive leadership skills – professionally or as a volunteer

2. Professional objectivity and the ability to think strategically

3. Demonstrated interest in a broad range of arboricultural issues

4. ISA Board or equivalent experience and contribution

5. Demonstrated organizational support (can commit to doing the job given the time and travel commitments)

6. Demonstrated management skills

Nominations must be sent to Jerri Moorman, executive assistant to the executive director, by 4:30pm Central Standard Time on January 16, 2012. For more information, email Jerri Moorman at jmoorman@isa-arbor.com or phone her at (217) 531-2835.
