The Davey Tree Expert Company announces organizational changes

As part of Davey Tree’s continuing effort to recognize effective leadership, four employees were promoted in California and Canada.

In California, Larry Abernathy was promoted to vice president and general manager of the Davey Tree Surgery Company, a subsidiary of The Davey Tree Expert Company. Additionally, Larry Evans has been promoted to the position of senior vice president of Surgery Company operations.

Abernathy, a 42-year employee of Davey, has wide-ranging experience at the company, and served most recently as senior vice president of operations for the Surgery Company. In his new role, Abernathy will focus on administrative concerns while providing overall leadership and facilitation of operations while ensuring achievement of company financial goals.

Evans has been at Davey for 31 years and formerly held the title of vice president of operations for the Surgery Company. Evans’ focus will be on operations management and realization of profit goals. He will also be responsible for direct customer relations, equipment/purchasing and personnel development.

Steve Marshall, executive vice president of Davey operations, said Abernathy and Evans’ tenures at Davey have prepared them for their new positions. “They are both effective leaders,” Marshall said. “With their past experiences and numerous successes, they are well-prepared for their promotions.”

Canadian Changes

Additionally, James Doyle, vice president and general manager of The Davey Tree Expert Company of Canada, Limited, announced the promotions of Mike Nash and Blair Veitch to vice presidents.

Mike Nash’s new title is vice president of operations.  His areas of responsibility will include all Ontario residential, commercial and utility operations.

As an 18-year employee of Davey, Nash has gained a wealth of experience as he moved from a field employee in Ottawa to his most recent position as area manager for the Eastern residential/commercial Canadian operations in January 2011.

Veitch’s new title is also vice president of operations. His areas of responsibility will include Davey’s Western residential/commercial operations as well as Davey’s utility operations in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

A 25-year employee of Davey, Veitch began his career with Davey’s utility division in 1984, with his most recent position being area manager of western residential/commercial operations.
