Hundreds of students descended on Baltimore, Maryland for the 16th Annual Tree Care Industry Association Foundation Student Career Days (SCD) event. The three-day event (November 8-10) offered students enrolled in horticulture, forestry and related programs an inside look at the field they’re studying.
Representing colleges, universities and vocational programs from across the country, students participated in friendly competitions to demonstrate their skills and expertise to win prizes. Popular events, such as a belayed scramble, a throwline toss and a work climb, took place in the trees of Federal Hill Park.
Three-time international tree climbing champion Mark Chisholm was on-site to demonstrate his renowned climbing skills and give the students competition tips. “This event is one of my favorites,” said Chisholm. “To see the passion these kids have for learning about how to be better experts and better professionals is continually inspiring.” Student Career Days also hosted a Job & Internship Fair during TCI EXPO, with some of the biggest names in tree care. SCD 2012 sponsors included STIHL Inc., Arborwell, Bartlett Tree Experts, The Davey Tree Expert Co., RTEC Treecare, SavATree, The Care of Trees, International Society of Arboriculture, Vermeer Corporation, and Bandit Industries, Inc.
