The board of directors of the Asplundh Tree Expert Co. announced the election of Director of Corporate Safety Bruce Mellott to the position of vice president of corporate safety-vegetation operations.
Mellott joined Asplundh in July 2014 with more than 20 years of experience as a safety professional in a variety of industrial settings including Georgia Pacific Corporation in Vermont, General Electric Silicones in New York and most recently, PPL Services Corp. in Pennsylvania. He is responsible for the overall alignment of policies and regulatory guidelines for safety and health compliance in Asplundh’s vegetation operations, as well as supporting field and office personnel in achieving continuous improvement of safety performance.
“Bruce’s leadership in implementing practical, enterprise-wide safety strategies is clearly enhancing our employees’ safety,” said George E. Graham, Jr., president of Asplundh, the international utility tree trimming company headquartered in Willow Grove, Pa. “With this promotion to vice president, we want to acknowledge the value we place on employee safety and on the importance of his role in our safety culture.”
Mellott holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Delaware Valley College in Pennsylvania and a Masters of Public Health (MPH) from Tulane University in Louisiana. He serves on the ANSI Z133 Committee, the EEI Contractor Safety Task Force and the Utility Line Clearance Coalition, and has recently earned the designation of Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP). In addition, Mellott spent more than 19 years in both the volunteer and career fire service, and was highly active in both hazardous material operations and urban search and rescue. He is a board member of the Burn Prevention Network and is the past president of the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers.
A native of southeastern Pennsylvania, Mellott currently resides with his family in the Lehigh Valley Region.
